“This project will help the City of Holyoke continue to provide below market electric rates to its customers.”
- James M. Lavelle, Manager, Holyoke Gas & Electric
The County Road Solar project is located on five acres of land utilized by Clear Channel Communications for radio towers in Holyoke, Massachusetts.
The 800 kilowatt (kW) installation is comprised of 3,198 Hyundai solar panels, two SGI 300 and one PVI 95 Solectria inverters, and a Schletter ground-mount racking system. Completed in January 2013, the facility produces over 1 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity per year, enough to power approximately 100 homes and prevent the annual release of over 1,000 tons of carbon dioxide from non-renewable power plants.
The power from this project is being sold to the local utility. In addition to the environmental benefits of solar energy, low-cost power produced by this facility will benefit all of the residential and commercial customers of the utility by contributing to lower electricity rates.
