A little over a year ago Citizens Energy chose an El Centro resident to receive free solar panels. The solar panel program is now available to the whole County who qualify.
“We are going to be here and we will do everything we can to make sure that the expertise is provided to this valley and that solar power becomes a really big word in the Imperial Valley,” Citizens Energy Founder, Joe Kennedy said.
He has stayed true to his word. The program is now available to the whole county.
“Solar panels on the roof. If there house is owned by them and they qualify through a fiscal study,” Imperial County Board of Supervisors Chair, John Renison said.
That means you have to be in the low income bracket. The income level isn’t revealed. Citizens Energy decides who qualifies. It’s just a phone call away.
“Operators speak Spanish so for the bilingual community you get on there over the phone. They’ll send somebody out to qualify you and if you qualify for this you get free solar panels. Your electricity is created by the solar panels and whatever excess goes to the IID,” Renison said.
If you were to buy these panels they normally start at $30,000.
Not only do residents benefit an added bonus Citizens Energy doesn’t waste any energy.
“I asked Brian how much he thinks Joann will save as a result of having those solar panels put on her roof? And, he said he thinks her bill will go down close to zero,” Kennedy said.
“My hats off to Citizens Energy because they’re reinvesting their profits from the Sunrise Powerlink back into the community and that’s the way it should be,” Renison said.
