To further promote resiliency, Citizens Energy Corporation introduced Citizens Storage & Microgrids to develop innovative projects that reduce our reliance on fossil fuels by increasing communities’ capacities to meet peak energy demands with green power, while hardening and strengthening the grid.
Citizens Energy is actively developing storage and microgrid projects across multiple states. Our microgrid developments are designed to integrate distributed energy resources with distribution to operate in parallel with the electric grid or in an island mode.
Citizens’ energy storage units will serve to reduce peak energy demand to decrease electricity costs. The projects will aid critical community facilities like schools, hospitals and emergency response centers in becoming self-sufficient in times of crisis.
Site info: Built on land owned by the PIDC at the historic Navy Yard.
Community benefit: The first-of-its-kind BESS in the Philadelphia region. This project will provide peak shaving services to tenants at the Navy Yard and participate in the PJM frequency regulation market.
Site info: Built on land owned by HG&E in the Holyoke Canal District.
Community benefit: This BESS will provide energy cost savings to local residents though peak shaving technology. The system will also participate in the ISO-NE ancillary services market.
Site info: Connecting four critical facilities that can be grid tied, island individually or together.
Community benefit: Project provides resiliency and utility cost savings and provides the city with an additional emergency shelter location.
