Carrying green power to markets.

About

Building on our commitment to combat climate change, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve energy resiliency, and ensure energy affordability for the most vulnerable populations, Citizens Energy Corporation launched Citizens Transmission.

aboutalt1@2x

Citizens Transmission works to develop new high-voltage transmission lines that bring green energy from rural areas to densely populated electric load centers, increase grid resiliency, and reduce costs by eliminating transmission bottlenecks.

Our unique investment model means we partner with utilities and large energy companies to build crucial pathways from green energy generation to end-users, while using the profits from our investment in these projects to provide energy assistance and community benefits for low-income families and marginalized communities in the areas that host these projects.

our development pipeline

Citizens Energy has several transmission projects under development throughout the U.S. with utilities and large transmission developers – in California, New England, and the Midwest.

Our projects

  • Southern California

    Sunrise PowerLink

The Sunrise PowerLink was developed in partnership with San Diego Gas & Electric to access the vast renewable energy resources of the Imperial Valley, while meeting the power needs of over 650,000 homes in California. Citizens' profits from this investment were used to fund over 580 rooftop solar installations on low-income homes in Imperial County – our Solar Homes Program – and more recently a 39 megawatt low-income community solar project – serving 12,000 households in Imperial County, the largest in the U.S.

    Sycamore-Peñasquitos

The Sycamore-Peñasquitos Transmission Line was developed in partnership with San Diego Gas & Electric to enhance grid reliability and ensure the delivery of renewable electricity in Southern California. Citizens uses its profits from this investment to help low-income families share in the benefits of the electrification of the transportation sector. Non-profit social service organizations around San Diego that serve low-income families and marginalized communities receive funding from Citizens to purchase Electric Vehicles (EVs) and charging infrastructure to reduce polluting emissions where they live and work.

    S-Line Upgrade

With the help of the Imperial Irrigation District (IID) and partners, Citizens upgraded IID’s 230 kV S-Line, one of the district’s major transmission lines, in an effort to maintain reliable energy service while boosting the ability to import and export power. Currently, the line serves as the primary path for the import and export of power through IID and into the California and Arizona energy markets.
