Citizens Energy, a non-profit energy company, recently served lunch to guests at Father Bill’s & MainSpring’s (FBMS) Yawkey Housing Resource Center in Quincy.
As part of their Shelter Winter Assistance Program (CESWAP), Citizens Energy also provided over $14,000 to help cover heating costs this past winter for FBMS sites in both Quincy and Brockton.
“Helping those in need has always been at the heart of our mission at Citizens Energy, and through our charitable programs, we can make a real difference in the lives of our most vulnerable neighbors,” said Joe Kennedy III, president of Citizens Energy. “It’s an honor to support Father Bill’s and MainSpring and play a small part in ensuring that facilities remained warm and welcoming this winter. By helping to cover the cost of heat, FBMS is able to redirect their resources into the care and services that make a real impact on the health and future of those experiencing homelessness.”
Building on their mission to make life’s basic needs more affordable, Citizens Energy’s Shelter Winter Assistance Program provides warmth to facilities that house our most vulnerable. By significantly offsetting the energy costs to house these communities, the programs diverts funding back to crucial services, including health care, education and job training. Annually, CESWAP provides grants to over 120 facilities in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Father Bill’s & MainSpring’s mission is to end and prevent homelessness in Southern Massachusetts with programs that provide emergency and permanent housing and help people obtain skills, jobs, housing, and services. The organization helps those who are struggling with homelessness, or are at risk of homelessness, achieve self-sufficiency.
For individual adults facing a housing crisis, FBMS is replacing a reactive overnight shelter approach with a cost-effective and compassionate housing resource model. Their HRC day centers offer wraparound supports and targeted services that are designed to prevent or quickly end homelessness, not just manage it.
