Emergency Winter Warmth Fund

Help keep Massachusetts families warm this winter.

Heating oil prices have risen sharply.

Citizens Energy is partnering with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to launch the Emergency Winter Warmth Fund, a public-private partnership to help low- and middle-income households keep warm this winter.

The need

An extraordinarily difficult winter

For some households this winter, the choice may come down to paying a heating bill or putting food on the table. Families are facing thousands of dollars in heating costs at the same time they are managing higher costs for housing, food, child care and other essentials.

This pressure reaches well into the middle class. Families who have never needed assistance before may find themselves struggling to absorb thousands of dollars in heating costs on top of other basic necessities.

The Healey-Driscoll Administration is committing

$49 million
  • $15 millionto supplement federal funding for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)
  • $34 millionfor one-time relief to middle-income households that heat with oil
The case for private partnership

Your contribution goes to work right away

The Commonwealth’s investment will provide meaningful relief, but the need extends beyond available public resources. The delivery system is already in place, so private, tax-deductible contributions go straight into an established community network rather than a new program.

You contribute

Your company makes a tax-deductible gift to the Emergency Winter Warmth Fund through Citizens Energy.

Funds reach local agencies

Donations are transferred to Massachusetts’ 19 Local Administering Agencies and the City of Cambridge, which already connect families with heating help.

Families stay warm

Funds are split evenly between HEAP-eligible households and middle-income heating-oil households.

For nearly 50 years, Citizens Energy has helped households meet their basic energy needs through heating assistance programs that have reached families and community organizations across Massachusetts and the country.
